Four to Six Stops Chosen on the Day, Chinatown to Hosier Lane
There is no fixed menu, and that is the design. The guide picks four to six tastings on the day, based on what is seasonal and on what the group in front of them actually wants, which means two tours never quite match. Three hours through the cultural middle of the CBD. Chinatown first, for hand-folded dumplings, dim sum or Asian fusion, and the story of the Chinese migrants who founded the district in the 1850s. Then Curtin House and the international places around it: Indian dhai puri, Thai, oysters, lamb nuggets, depending. Then the laneways, Hosier Lane among them, where your included drink is waiting at a laneway bar or a wine cellar door. And a sweet stop near Federation Square to finish. The tastings are built to replace dinner, not to precede it. Come hungry. Twelve guests at most, which is genuinely small, and the operator's point is that at that size the guide talks to you rather than recites. Departures are 11 am or 7 pm depending on the date, so check the calendar. Two to three kilometres on foot. In English, with the guide, the tastings, one drink, and a list of recommendations for the rest of your stay. Melbourne does four seasons in a day, so bring a layer and an umbrella. It runs in all weather. Dietary requirements usually cannot be accommodated on this tour; ask before booking if you have specific needs.

108 Spring St, East Melbourne
The starting point is Gordon Reserve, at 74-108 Spring Street, East Melbourne, the small park opposite the Hotel Windsor. Go to the Windsor, cross the street into the park with the fountain, and look for your guide with a blue umbrella.
Gordon Reserve
Meet your guide at the fountain in Gordon Reserve. They ask about your food preferences and any dietary needs, and then build your route through the city's best eating neighbourhoods.
Chinatown
Melbourne's Chinatown. Hand-folded dumplings, Michelin-starred dim sum, or Asian fusion, with the story of the Chinese migrants who established the district in the 1850s. Possible stops: Shan Dong Mama, Tim Ho Wan, Wang's Crispy Pancake, or a local fusion favourite.
Curtin House
Melbourne's multicultural food scene, at Indian, Thai or other international places that locals treat as institutions. Possible stops: Chapati for dhai puri and curries, Cookie for Thai, Muli Express for fresh oysters, or Spring Rock for the lamb nuggets.
Hosier Lane
Through the famous laneways, Hosier Lane among them, and the hidden places off them. Your included drink comes at a good Melbourne venue, whether a laneway bar, a cellar door or a restaurant with a serious list, with the city's immigration history and street culture explained around it.
End with Melbourne's best sweet treats - innovative ice…
The finish is sweet: inventive ice cream, traditional Italian granita, or a seasonal artisan dessert. The tour ends in the central CBD near Federation Square or Swanston Street, around 2 pm for the daytime tour and 10 pm for the evening one, with good public transport at hand.
Melbourne
Where we end changes with the route each day, but it is always within walking distance of Federation Square.
