The Immigration Museum, Then Four Places to Eat
Melbourne's food is what immigration made of it, and this is the tour that takes you to the Immigration Museum to say so, including whatever special exhibition is running. That decision shapes the rest. Four hours, four venues, a course at each, and the through-line is which communities arrived, what they cooked and how it became Australian. The eating runs from artisanal ice cream through Chinatown to what now counts as Australian cuisine, which is a shorter and stranger history than most countries have. There are spice shops along the way, and a proper look at the ingredients each region brought with it, because a spice shelf is a migration map if you know how to read it. The coffee is Melbourne coffee, at cafes chosen for the purpose. Four hours on foot, fourteen people at most, in English. Wheelchair accessible throughout, service animals allowed, prams fine. The tastings are included; anything else you want to buy is your own.
