A Farmer for a Day at a Sabaneta Family Finca

Colombia is the third largest coffee producer in the world, which is a reason to understand the process rather than just drink the result. Thirty minutes from the city, in Sabaneta, there is a family farm that has been growing coffee for two generations, and the tour is private, so it is you and the grower. He takes you through it from the seed in the ground to the cup, and then you go out into the field and pick alongside him, which is the difference between hearing about the work and doing twenty minutes of it. The coffee is organic and it is prepared several different ways so you can taste what the method does. There are Colombian fruit trees on the farm and the landscape around it is the reason people move out here. Four hours, private, with hotel pick-up and drop-off, the driver and guide, the farm entrance, health insurance and a gourmet cup. Up to fifteen people, in English or Spanish. Moderate fitness needed. It runs in all weather, so dress for it, and transfer times depend on the traffic.
