Hang Be Market and Hidden Alleys: Six Hanoi Street Bites

Ten departure times between nine in the morning and half past six in the evening, which makes this the easiest street food walk in Hanoi to fit around a day. Three hours through the Old Quarter with a guide, into hidden alleyways and out at Hang Be, the local market where the neighbourhood shops. The food carries the French and Chinese influences that Hanoi absorbed and never gave back. Six or seven things to eat and drink: bún chả, grilled pork with rice noodles; phở trộn, the dry version of the soup; phở cuốn, the noodle sheet rolled round beef and herbs; bánh mì; kem xôi, sticky rice under ice cream; and egg coffee. There is a train street option. Depending on the timetable, the group walks over during or after the food and has a coffee, a beer or a juice sitting beside the track while waiting for the train to come through, which it does at a distance that makes no sense until you have seen it. Up to twelve people, in English. Pickup on foot from Old Quarter hotels, and the drop-off is either your hotel or a café on Luong Ngoc Quyen. The route is wheelchair accessible.
