Naples

Over ten separate tastings in two and a half hours, which for thirty-eight euros is the densest food-per-hour ratio in the Naples listings, and the reason to pick this one. You meet at Piazza Bellini beside the Greek walls, arriving fifteen minutes early, and eat the first thing standing there: a tarallo, savoury and studded with almonds, while the guide explains what those excavated stones are and why the ground level has risen so far above them. Via dei Tribunali is where the pizzerias are, and the guide uses it for two things: mozzarella from a deli that has been open since 1958, and fried pizza from one of the better ovens on the street. Spaccanapoli, running parallel, brings the limoncello. Desserts happen by the Conservatorio di San Pietro a Majella, one of the earliest music academies anywhere in Europe and still a working conservatory: babà soaked in rum, sfogliatella with its ricotta filling, and gelato. The walk finishes in Piazza del Gesù Nuovo rather than doubling back, with Santa Chiara on one side, the Gesù Nuovo on the other and the obelisk to the Immacolata between them. This is the part of Naples that carries the UNESCO listing, and standing in that square is the quickest way to see why. Up to fifteen travellers, guided in English, moderate walking. Drinks beyond the tastings are not included. Not suitable for gluten-free, dairy-free or vegan diets.
