The Audiorama, the Mercado de Medellin, and a Michelada

Mexico CityThe title is a complaint, and a fair one: Mexico City is not only tacos, and this tour spends four and a half hours proving it. It starts in Condesa with a drink and a tamal or a taco, depending on the hour, and then the bikes. Condesa first, which is the Art Deco neighbourhood with the leafy streets, then Roma Norte, then Roma Sur for tamales, then the Mercado de Medellin, which is the market for produce from all over Latin America and one of the most beautiful in the city. Chapultepec next, which is twice the size of Central Park and was named the best urban park in the world in 2019. Inside it is the Audiorama, which is the reason to take this tour over the others: a walled garden where recorded music plays and speaking is not allowed, and which almost no visitor finds. Then Paseo de la Reforma, the main avenue, and back to Condesa for a michelada made properly: beer, lime, salt, chilli and sauces, which is not what gets served under that name elsewhere. Along the way: tacos, quesadillas, fresh juices and whatever else is good. Four and a half hours, six people at most, in English, with the bike, breakfast, water, coffee and the alcohol. The operator can run this for blind and visually impaired guests with advance notice.

Roma Norte
Roma Norte is a lively, modern neighbourhood in the middle of Mexico City, with a mix of old charm and new polish. The streets are full of cafes, good restaurants, boutiques and galleries, and it has the nightlife and the green spaces, Plaza Rio de Janeiro among them. It blends the traditional and the contemporary better than anywhere else here, which is why locals and visitors both love it.
Roma Sur
Time for tamales. We start the day properly with hot coffee and fresh tamales, homemade and full of flavour, which is exactly how a local would fuel up before anything.
Mercado de Medellin
One of the most beautiful and traditional markets Mexico City has, where we taste our way through and get into the traditions behind the food.
Condesa
One of the loveliest neighbourhoods in the city. We explore a few places and stop to take in Parque Mexico, and eat some very good tacos while we work out why this corner is so admired.
Audiorama
A jewel in the middle of Chapultepec Park, and hard to describe in a sentence, which is why we stop there rather than talk about it.
Chapultepec Forest
This forest was named the best urban park in the world in 2019, and it is twice the size of Central Park in New York.
Paseo de la Reforma
The main avenue of Mexico City.
La Condesa
Micheladas, done the Mexico City way. Not the version served in the United States: here we have our own way of making this drink, and it is all about bold flavour.
