The San Juan Market, and a Library Inside a Church

Mexican food starts here, in the sense that the historic centre is where the Aztec city and the Spanish one met, and what came out of it is on the tables. Five hours, ten people, and it opens at the Mercado de San Juan, which is the market chefs and serious cooks in this city use. Three tasting stops inside it, and a walk through produce most visitors will not have seen before. Then Madero Avenue, which is the busiest street in Mexico City and is full of stories the guide will tell you. The Biblioteca Miguel Lerdo de Tejada is the stop that is not about food and is worth as much as the ones that are: a former church whose interior is covered in murals by one of Mexico's great painters, and which is now a library. Nothing prepares you for the inside. After that, the oldest part of the city and the eateries hidden in it, a cantina, a street stall, traditional restaurants, and a look at Mexico City's Chinatown, which is small and has been there longer than most people assume. Everything you eat and drink is included, alcohol among it. Ten people at most, in English or Spanish. Vegetarian and vegan options if you say at booking. Eighteen to drink. Children need an adult. It runs in all weather, so dress for it. Arrive fifteen minutes early: the tour starts on time.
