Athens Classic Food Tour: Varvakios, Meze and a Cooked Lunch
Three hours built around eating in the places Athenians eat: small restaurants, family-run, where the cooking is the reason people come back rather than the view. The route takes in Varvakios, the covered market where the meat and fish of the city are traded, so you see the raw material before you eat it. The tastings run from a koulouri, the sesame ring sold on every corner, through Greek cheeses and a raki, into a spread of meze, then a cooked lunch of the kind that comes out of a pot rather than off a grill, and a coffee to close. Guided in German, English, Italian or French, twelve people at most. The whole route is wheelchair accessible, surfaces included. Dietary requirements need to be flagged at booking.
