Athens Market Shopping and Taverna Cooking Class with Lunch

The class does not happen in a studio. It happens in a neighbourhood taverna that is open and serving while you are in it, which means noise, kitchen smells and Athenians eating at the next table. Before that comes the shopping. The group meets by the Acropolis metro and walks to the Central Market to buy the ingredients the way a local would, choosing them at the counters rather than finding them laid out. Then a fifteen-minute walk through the old town to the taverna. A professional Greek cook takes the class through home-style dishes: tzatziki, dolmadakia, Greek salad, peppers and tomatoes stuffed and baked, and chocolate salami for the sweet. Aprons, gloves and equipment are provided. Then everyone sits down to eat it: two appetisers, a salad, a main course and dessert, with a glass of wine each. Three and a half hours, twelve people at most, in English. Each booking goes home with a recipe book. The class ends at the taverna, in the Monastiraki area, not back at the meeting point.
