Khodanjal, Panache and Mint Tea, with the Food
The food list is good and the drinks list is better, which is not a sentence you write about most food tours. Three hours through the Medina, into the small stalls and the corners visitors walk past, for msemen, chebakia, grilled meat skewers, kefta shakshuka, Moroccan pastries and whatever fruit is in season. Standard and excellent. Then the drinks, which almost nobody else bothers with. Mint tea, obviously. Panache, the mixed fresh fruit juice. And khodanjal, a hot herbal infusion made from galangal root that Moroccans drink for the digestion and on cold evenings, and which most visitors leave the country without ever tasting. The guide explains what is in each thing and where it came from, which is the point of paying for a guide rather than pointing at a stall. Fifteen at most, in English, with everything you eat. And one thing worth stating: the whole tour is wheelchair accessible, all areas and surfaces, with accessible transport options, which for a street food tour in a medina is close to unheard of.
