Marrakech

Mehdi runs this himself, and he is a licensed guide, which in Morocco is a real qualification rather than a claim: it takes training and an exam, and the badge is checkable. Three hours through the Medina, starting from the Poste du Maroc in Jemaa el-Fna, and what you eat comes off the same stalls the neighbourhood eats from. The photographs from the tour name what is on offer: meula, which is Morocco's version of shakshuka, eggs cooked into a spiced tomato base; chfange, the doughnuts, best straight out of the oil; a barbecue stop; and an olive tasting, which sounds slight and is not, because Morocco's olives run from creamy greens to reds tossed with herbs and the range is wider than anyone expects. Up to twelve people, and the tour runs at breakfast, lunch or dinner times depending on the slot you book, with the meal included. Moderate fitness, because it is three hours on your feet in a maze. Service animals allowed, prams fine.
