Mama's Roots Cooking Class in Athens: Six Dishes in a Garden

The recipes belong to one family, and they come from two places: Crete and the Peloponnese, where the mother of the house learned to cook. The class works through six of them. The setting is a garden on Keramikou, and the herbs and vegetables come out of it. That is the practical difference from a classroom kitchen: you pick what you are about to cook. The team talks while they teach, about who taught them each dish and why it is made the way it is. Three and a half hours, six dishes, and then everyone sits down and eats the lot, with wine from local producers. Beginners and experienced cooks both fit, because the point is the recipes rather than the technique. Bookings take up to eight people, and the class runs in English.
