Marrakech

The pitch is four words long and it is the best one in Marrakech: No tagine. No couscous. That is not contrarian. Tagine and couscous are what Moroccan restaurants serve visitors, and they are excellent, and they are also a fraction of what people here actually eat. Nine stops through the parts of the Medina that tourists do not reach, and the food is Berber, which is the older layer underneath the one on the menus. Three hours. Everything is included: what the operator lists as breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, water and tea, which reads oddly and simply means you will not be hungry afterwards and will not be paying for anything on the way. Ten people at most, in English, French, Italian or Arabic, which is a wider range than most. It starts at the Cafe Argana on Jemaa el-Fna, and then leaves the square, which is the point. Not recommended if you are pregnant, have a spinal injury or a heart condition, because it is three hours of walking in narrow streets.
