Marrakech

The shopping is the tell. Most Marrakech classes take you to the souk, which is fine and is also where everyone goes. Najla takes you to the small shops in her own neighbourhood, near Berrima, which is where she actually buys. Then her kitchen, which is hers, not a school's. One traditional meal, prepared step by step with her guiding rather than demonstrating, and enough time in four hours to do it slowly. Afterwards you sit down and eat what you made, with proper Moroccan tea and pastries. She is clear about what this is: less a course than an afternoon in a Moroccan house, with the food as the reason to be there. Up to fifteen people, in English or French, with bottled water. Wheelchair accessible throughout, prams fine, and private transport is not included.
